The Storyopen MarinePod 22 Floating Mobile Home is engineered for deployment on water — floating pontoons, marina berths, inland waterway moorings, and lake-edge leisure sites where the combination of residential quality accommodation and waterside location creates the lifestyle and investment proposition that growing numbers of UK marina operators, waterway leisure developers, and private mooring holders are seeking. The MarinePod 22 is designed to sit on a Storyopen-supplied or third-party floating pontoon structure and function as a fully specification residential or holiday letting unit that resists the specific structural stresses, environmental exposures, and maintenance requirements of permanent water-based deployment.
The marine specification begins at the structural level: the chassis is fabricated from 316L stainless steel rather than carbon steel, eliminating the galvanic corrosion risk that marine atmosphere creates for conventional galvanised or painted steel structures within five years of water-proximity deployment. All external fixings are A4 stainless steel. The external cladding is fibre cement board in a marine-grey powder-coat finish with a salt-spray tested 25-year durability certification. The window and door frames are marine-grade anodised aluminium with EPDM gaskets rated for continuous exposure to saline atmosphere. Internal surfaces use closed-cell moisture-resistant materials throughout, eliminating the condensation and mould risk that standard building materials develop in high-humidity waterside environments.
The 22-square-metre floor plan delivers a double bedroom, an open-plan kitchen-living area with south-facing panoramic glazing providing unobstructed water views, and a full bathroom suite. A covered external deck of 6 square metres is integrated into the unit’s structural frame rather than added as a separate structure, providing a weatherproof outdoor living area immediately connected to the interior living space. Marina utility connection is through a standard 32A shore power inlet, fresh water standpipe connection, and pump-out or gravity drain wastewater connection — all compatible with standard UK marina pontoon utility columns.
Storyopen provides the MarinePod 22 with a full marine structural survey report for insurance and marina berth approval purposes, a CE mark for domestic waterway use in the UK, and a dedicated marine deployment support team experienced in working with Canal and River Trust, British Waterways Scotland, and private marina operators.
