The Storyopen SolarMax 24 Zero-Carbon Mobile Home is Storyopen’s most technically ambitious standard-production product — a 24-square-metre residential mobile home engineered to achieve a genuine net-zero operational carbon footprint through a combination of Passivhaus-level thermal performance, a fully integrated all-electric energy system powered entirely by on-site renewable generation, and a material specification that minimises embodied carbon throughout the building’s structure and fabric. The SolarMax 24 is designed for buyers committed to carbon neutrality, driven by energy cost elimination, or motivated by the environmental principle that a home should take from the environment no more than it can give back through clean energy generation.
The renewable energy system is the centrepiece of the SolarMax 24: a 3kWp rooftop monocrystalline solar array on a low-profile flush mounting system provides the primary generation source; a 9.6kWh Tesla Powerwall 3 provides daily storage and grid export management; a Sunsynk hybrid inverter manages power flows between solar, battery, grid, and loads with a home energy management interface accessible through the Sunsynk app; and a pre-installed provision for a second 3kWp array allows capacity doubling when additional generation is required in low-sun winter months. The all-electric load profile is served by a 5kW air-source heat pump for space heating and domestic hot water, an induction hob, a heat pump tumble dryer, and all-LED lighting — a total load profile that the 3kWp solar array and 9.6kWh battery can serve from on-site generation for over 300 days per year in a standard UK climate.
The thermal envelope — 180mm PIR SIP panels at 0.11 W/m²K, triple-glazed Passivhaus-certified windows, and a tested airtightness result below 0.6 ACH — ensures that the heat pump’s space heating demand is limited to under 2,000kWh per year, a demand level that the solar-battery system supplies entirely from renewable generation across the full annual cycle without grid import in most UK climate zones. The 24-square-metre floor plan delivers a double bedroom, an open-plan kitchen-living area, and a full bathroom. Engineered timber flooring, white-painted OSB feature walls, and a clean Scandinavian-inspired interior palette reinforce the sustainable material narrative of the building throughout its visible surfaces.
Every Storyopen SolarMax 24 is delivered with a full energy system commissioning report, a modelled annual energy balance calculation, and a Sunsynk app configuration showing the buyer’s predicted solar generation, battery cycling, and grid import/export profile for the first full year of occupancy.
