The Storyopen PetFriendly 22 Animal-Inclusive Mobile Home is designed for pet owners, animal handlers, smallholders, and countryside lifestyle buyers for whom pets and working animals are full members of the household and for whom standard mobile home designs — with their mud-vulnerable flooring, restricted entry configurations, and lack of animal storage and care facilities — represent a genuine functional compromise that makes mobile home living impractical in the day-to-day reality of life with animals. The PetFriendly 22 integrates animal-specific design features throughout the floor plan and building specification without compromising the residential quality, thermal performance, or visual appeal of the home for its human occupants.
The animal-specific design features embedded in the PetFriendly 22 include: a dedicated mudroom entry lobby of 4 square metres with a shower tray floor recessed flush with the surrounding non-slip tile for pet washing, a wall-mounted hot and cold dog shower with flexible hose, towel rail, and pet coat hooks at multiple heights; hard-wearing quarry tile flooring throughout the entry and kitchen areas replacing the carpeting and vinyl plank that animal claws and muddy paws destroy in conventional mobile home finishes; a built-in pet bed alcove with ventilation and removable pet bed drawer in the living area; a designated raw feeding preparation surface in the kitchen with a separate low-level tap and drain for meat preparation without cross-contamination of the human food preparation surface; and a 3.0-metre × 2.0-metre secure external kennel-run attached to the building’s long chassis elevation with a cat-flap or dog-flap integrated into the wall panel at the appropriate species height.
The 22-square-metre human floor plan delivers a double bedroom, an open-plan kitchen-living area, the mudroom lobby, and a full bathroom — a complete residential floor plan that does not sacrifice human living quality to accommodate the animal design additions. The SIP panel construction achieves a U-value of 0.17 W/m²K, and the underfloor heating throughout the tile-floored areas provides the thermal comfort that tile flooring alone cannot deliver in winter conditions. The MVHR ventilation system is specified at an elevated air change rate of 1.5 ACH to manage the odour load that permanent indoor animal presence creates in a well-sealed building envelope.
Storyopen provides a full countryside living deployment service for the PetFriendly 22, including a rural site assessment, groundwork specification for yard and paddock positions, and guidance on the planning and licensing requirements for keeping working animals in conjunction with a residential mobile home deployment.
